UK Internal Market Scheme update

With effect from 24 March 2024, to use the UK Internal Market Scheme, authorisation, businesses will need to use the Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number starting with XI which is associated with their UK Internal Market Scheme authorisation.

Businesses which hold a valid XI EORI number will have received a letter from HMRC in December 2023 to tell you them when to start using their XI EORI number and should follow the guidance set out in the letter.

By the time these CDS changes are delivered from 24 March 2024, businesses should be using their XI EORI number when making import/export declarations in Northern Ireland using the Customs Declaration Service, as this will be the EORI that is associated with their UK Internal Market Scheme authorisation.

Failure to use your valid XI EORI may result in your declaration being rejected by the Customs Declaration Service.

Businesses must use their XI EORI as the importer on all declarations going forward. ENS Submitters, Hauliers and suppliers should be notified of this change and use your valid XI EORI going forward.
